[13] One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher,
bid my brother divide the inheritance with me."
[14] But he said to him, "Man, who made
me a judge or divider over you?"
[15] And he said to them, "Take heed,
and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in
the abundance of his possessions."
[16] And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully;
[17] and he thought to himself, `What
shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?'
[18] And he said, `I will do this: I
will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store
all my grain and my goods.
[19] And I will say to my soul, Soul,
you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink,
be merry.'
[20] But God said to him, `Fool! This
night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared,
whose will they be?'
[21] So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich
toward God.

THE GOOD AND EVIL TREES
[33] Either make the tree good, and its fruit good;
or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by
its fruit.
[34] You brood of vipers! how can you speak good, when
you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
[35] The good man
out of his good treasure brings
forth good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure
brings forth evil.
[36] I tell you, on the day of judgment men will render
account for every careless word they utter;
[37] for by your words you will be justified,
and by your words you will be condemned.

Luke.6
[43] For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a
bad tree bear good fruit;
[44] for each tree
is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor
are grapes picked from a bramble bush.
[45] The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil
man out of his evil treasure produces evil;
for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

THE HIDDEN TREASURE, THE PEARL
AND THE HOUSEHOLDER
[44] The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and
covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys
that field.
[45] Again, the kingdom of
heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls,
[46] who, on finding one pearl
of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
[51] Have you understood all this? They
said to him, "Yes."
[52] And he said to them, Therefore every scribe
who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who
brings out of his treasure what is new and
what is old.

THE RICH YOUNG MAN
[16] And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must
I do, to have eternal life?"
[17] And he said to him, Why do you ask me about what
is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.
[18] He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, You shall
not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not
bear false witness,
[19] Honor your father and mother,
and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[20] The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still
lack?"
[21] Jesus said to him, If you would be perfect, go,
sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.
[22] When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great
possessions.
[23] And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly, I say
to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
|
[17] And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before
him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
[18] And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone.
[19] You know the commandments: `Do not kill, Do not commit adultery,
Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father
and mother.
[20] And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth."
[21] And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to
the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven;
and come, follow me.
[22] At that saying his countenance fell, and he went away sorrowful; for
he had great possessions.
[23] And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the
kingdom of God!
[24] And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again,
Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom
of God!
|
[18] And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal
life?"
[19] And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone.
[20] You know the commandments: `Do not commit adultery, Do not kill,
Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.
[21] And he said, "All these I have observed from my youth."
[22] And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, One thing
you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you
will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow
me.
[23] But when he heard this he became sad, for he was very rich.
[24] Jesus looking at him said, How hard it is for
those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!
