FROM THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS
Matthew 10:19-20
L
19 When they deliver you up, do not be anxious
how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will
be given to you in that hour;
20 for it is
not you who speak, but the Spirit
of your Father speaking through you.
L
Matthew 12:27-29
L
27 And if I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul,
by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your
judges.
28 But if it
is by the Spirit of God
that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
29 Or how can
one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds
the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.
L
Matthew 12:30-32
L
30 He who is not with me is against me, and
he who does not gather with me scatters.
31 Therefore
I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy
against the Spirit
will not be forgiven.
32 And whoever
says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks
against the Holy Spirit
will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
L
Matthew 22:43-44
L
43 He said to them, "How is it then that David,
inspired by the Spirit,
calls him Lord, saying,
44 'The Lord
said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I put thy enemies under thy
feet'? |
Mark 13:11
L
11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver
you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever
is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the
Holy Spirit.

forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;

29 but whoever
blasphemes against the Holy Spirit
never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" --

Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour

FROM THE FOURTH GOSPEL
John 3:1-8
L
1 Now there was
a man of the Pharisees, named Nicode'mus, a ruler of the Jews.
2
This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you
are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do,
unless God is with him."
3
Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is begotten from above,
he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4
Nicode'mus said to him, "How can a man be begotten when he is old? Can he enter
a second time into his mother's womb and be begotten?"
5
Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is begotten of water
and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6
That which is begotten of the flesh is flesh, and that which is begotten of the
Spirit is spirit.
7
Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be begotten from above.'
8
The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do
not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who
is begotten of the Spirit."
John 3:34-35
L
34
For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for it is not by measure
that he gives the Spirit;
35
the Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
L
John 4:21-24
L
21
Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither
on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22
You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation
is from the Jews.
23
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit
and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.
24God
is spirit, and those who worship him must
worship in spirit
and truth."
L
John 6:63
L
63
It is the spirit
that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken
to you are spirit
and life.
L
John 7:37-39
L
37
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed,
"If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.
38 He
who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall
flow rivers of living water."
39 Now
this he said about the Spirit,
which those who believed in him were to receive; for as yet the
Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was
not yet glorified
L
John 14:15-18
L
15 "If
you love me, you will keep my commandments.
16
And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to
be with you for ever,
17
even the Spirit
of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor
knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.
John 14:25-26
L
25 "These
things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you.
26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and
bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
L
John 15:26-27
L
26
But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father,
even the Spirit
of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me;
27
and you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the beginning.
L
John 16:12-14
L
12
"I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13
When the Spirit
of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak
on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will
declare to you the things that are to come.
14
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
L
John 20:19-23
L
19
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being
shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood
among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."
20
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the
disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
21
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,
even so I send you."
22
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive
the
Holy Spirit.
23
If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins
of any, they are retained." |
