A Prayer
of Jesus
I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will

THE TEMPTATIONS IN THE WILDERNESS
Matt. 4

[8] Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them;
[9] and he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me."

[10] Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! for it is written, `You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'

[11] Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

Mark 1

[13] And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.
Luke 4

[5] And the devil took him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,

[6] and said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory; for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.
[7] If you, then, will worship me, it shall all be yours."
[8] And Jesus answered him, "It is written, `You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'"
[13] And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

HOW CAN SATAN CAST OUT SATAN?
Matthew 12

[25] Knowing their thoughts, he said to them,

 "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand;

[26] and if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?

[27] And if I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
[28] But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Mark 3

[23] And he called them to him, and said to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan?
[24] If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
[25] And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.
[26] And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end.

[27] But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man; then indeed he may plunder his house.
Luke 11

[17] But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.

18]
And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul.
[19] And if I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
[20] But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
[21] When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace;
[22] but when one stronger than he assails him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoil.
[23] He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

INTERPRETING THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER
Matt 13

[18] "Hear then the parable of the sower.
[19] When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it,

the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path.

[20]
As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
[21] yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
[22] As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

[23]
As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit, and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty."

    Mark 4

[13] And he said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
[14] The sower sows the word.
[15] And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown; when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which is sown in them.

[16] And these in like manner are the ones sown upon rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy;
[17] and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.
[18] And others are the ones sown among thorns; they are those who hear the word,
[19] but the cares of the world, and the delight in riches, and the desire for other things, enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
[20] But those that were sown upon the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold."
Luke 8

[11] Now the parable is this:

The seed is the word of God.

[12] The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved.
[13] And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

[14] And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.
[15] And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience.

INTERPRETING THE PARABLE OF THE WEEDS
Matt. 13

[36] Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field."
[37] He answered, He who sows the good seed is the Son of man;
[38] the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one,
[39] and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels.
[40] Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age.
[41] The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers,
[42] and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.
[43] Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

GET BEHIND ME!
Matt. 16

[21] From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
[22] And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, "God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you."
[23] But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men."

Mark 8

[31] And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
[32] And he said this plainly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
[33] But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men."
Luke 9

[22] "The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."

Luke 10

[17] The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!"
[18] And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
[19] Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.
[20] Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

THE DENIALS OF PETER

Luke 22

[31] "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,
[32] but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren."
[33] And he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."
[34] He said, "I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you three times deny that you know me."

THE LAST JUDGMENT
Matt. 25

[31] "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
[32] Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
[33] and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.
[34] Then the King will say to those at his right hand, `Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
[35] for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
[36] I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'
[37] Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?
[38] And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee?
[39] And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?'
[40] And the King will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'
[41] Then he will say to those at his left hand, `Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
[42] for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
[43] I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'
[44] Then they also will answer, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?'
[45] Then he will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.'
[46] And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

ONE IS A DEVIL

John 6

[66] After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him.
[67] Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?"
[68] Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life;
[69] and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."
[70] Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"
[71] He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was to betray him.
YOUR FATHER, THE DEVIL

John 8

[31] Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples,
[32] and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
[33] They answered him, "We are descendants of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one. How is it that you say, `You will be made free'?"
[34] Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin.
[35] The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever.
[36] So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
[37] I know that you are descendants of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
[38] I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father."
[39] They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did,
[40] but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God; this is not what Abraham did.
[41] You do what your father did." They said to him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God."
[42] Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.
[43] Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.
[44] You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
[45] But, because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.
[46] Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
[47] He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God."
