ON LOVING AND HATING
Matt.10
[37] He who loves father
or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or
daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
[38] and he who does not
take his cross and
follow me is not worthy of me.
[39] He who finds his life
will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

[25]
Now great multitudes accompanied him; and he turned and said to them,
[26] If any one comes to me and does not
hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and
sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
[27] Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me,
cannot be my disciple. |
ON SAVING ONE'S LIFE AND
LOSING IT
Matt.16
[24]
Then Jesus told his disciples, If
any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
[25] For
whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life
for my sake will find it.
[26] For
what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his
life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?
[27] For
the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father,
and then he will repay every man for what he has done.
[28] Truly,
I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death
before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Mark.8
[34]
And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to
them, If any man would come after
me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
[35] For whoever would save his life will
lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will
save it.
[36] For what does it profit a man, to gain
the whole world and forfeit his life?
[37] For what can a man give in return for
his life?
[38] For whoever is ashamed of me and of my
words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of
man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the
holy angels.
9:[1] And he said to them, "Truly, I say
to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before
they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.
|
Luke.9
[23]
And he said to all, If any man
would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
[24] For
whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life
for my sake, he will save it.
[25] For
what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or
forfeits himself?
[26] For
whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be
ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of
the holy angels.
[27] But
I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death
before they see the kingdom of God.

THE RICH YOUNG MAN
Matt.19
[16]
And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I
do, to have eternal life?"
[17] And he said to him, Why do you ask me about what is good?
One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the
commandments.
[18] He
said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, You shall not kill, You shall not
commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,
[19] Honor your father and mother, and, You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[20]
The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still
lack?"
[21]
Jesus said to him, If you would
be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you
will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.
[22] When the young man heard this he went
away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.
|
Mark.10
[17]
And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before
him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal
life?"
[18]
And Jesus said to him, Why do you
call me good? No one is good but God alone.
[19] You know the commandments: `Do not
kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness,
Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'
[20] And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I
have observed from my youth."
[21] And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and
said to him, You lack one thing;
go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven; and come, [take
up your cross and] follow me.
[22] At
that saying his countenance fell, and he went away sorrowful; for he
had great possessions.
(This phrase from
vs. 21 is not present in many manuscripts.)

Luke.18
[18]
And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit
eternal life?"
[19] And Jesus said to him, Why
do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.
[20] You know the commandments: `Do not
commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness,
Honor your father and mother.'
[21] And he said, "All these I have observed
from my youth."
[22] And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, One thing you still lack. Sell all that
you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in
heaven; and come, follow me.
[23] But when he heard this he became sad, for
he was very rich.
