A Prayer
of Jesus
I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise
and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will

ON ADULTERY
Matthew 5
M L
[27] You have heard that it was said, `You shall not commit adultery.'
[28] But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
[29] If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.
[30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better
th
at you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

ON THE LAMP OF THE BODY
Matthew 6
M
Luke 11
[22] The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light;
[34] Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is sound, your whole body is full of light;
[23] but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
but when it is not sound, your body is full of darkness.
[35] Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness.

[36] If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.
ON SERVING TWO MASTERS
Matthew 6
M
Luke 12
[25] Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
[22] And he said to his disciples, Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on.
[23] For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
ON NOT FEARING
Matthew 10
M
Luke 12
[28] And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

[4] I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
[5] But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him!
[29] Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's will.
[6] Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.
[30] But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
[7] Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
[31] Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
ON THE PAROUSIA
Matthew 24
M
Luke 17
[27] For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man.

[34] I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.

[35] There will be two women grinding together; one will be taken and the other left.
[28] Wherever the body (ptoma) is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
[37] And they said to him, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, Where the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
THE ANOINTING AT BETHANY
Matthew 26
Mark 14
L
[6] Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,
[7] a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head, as he sat at table.
[3] And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.

[8] But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste?

[4] But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was the ointment thus wasted?

[9] For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum, and given to the poor." [5] For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor." And they reproached her.
[10] But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me.
[6] But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.

[11] For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
[7] For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me.

[12] In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial.
[8] She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burying.

[13] Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her [9] And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.
THE LORDS SUPPER
Matthew 26
Mark 14
Luke 22

[15] And he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer;
[16] for I tell you I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

[17] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves;
[18] for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
[26] Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
[22] And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, Take; this is my body.
[19] And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.
[27] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you;
[23] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.

[20] And likewise the cup after supper, saying,
[28] for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
[24] And he said to them, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
[29] I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. [25] Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. [18] for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
