BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS
Matt.7
[15] Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
[16] You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?
[17] So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit.
[18] A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
[19] Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
[20] Thus you will know them by their fruits.

Luke.6
[43] For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit;
[44] for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.
[45]
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and
the evil man out of his evil treasure produces evil; for out of the
abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

THE UNFORGIVABLE WORD
Matt.12
[31] Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be
forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be
forgiven.
[32] And whoever says a word against the Son of
man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will
not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
[33] Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
|
Mark.3
[28] Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;
[29] but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" --

THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER
Matt.13
[1] That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.
[2] And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the beach.
[3] And he told them many things in parables, saying:
A sower went out to sow.
[4] And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
[5]
Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and
immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil,
[6] but when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they withered away.
[7] Other seeds fell upon thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
[8] Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
[9] He who has ears, let him hear.
|
Mark.4
[1] Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large
crowd gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on
the sea; and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land.
[2] And he taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them:
[3] Listen! A sower went out to sow.
[4] And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it.
[5] Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil;
[6] and when the sun rose it was scorched, and since it had no root it withered away.
[7] Other seed fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain.
[8]
And other seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing up
and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a
hundredfold.
[9] And he said, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
|
Luke.8
[4] And when a great crowd came together and people from town after town came to him,
he said in a parable:
[5] A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the
path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it.
[6] And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
[7] And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it.
[8]
And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded (fruit) a hundredfold.
As
he said this, he called out, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
|
INTERPRETATION OF THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER
Matt.13
[18] Hear then the parable of the sower.
[19] When
any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the
evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is
what was sown along the path.
[20] As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
[21]
yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when
tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately
he falls away.
[22] As for what was sown among thorns, this
is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in
riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful (akarpo))v).
[23] As
for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the word and
understands it; he indeed bears fruit (karpo))forousei), and yields, in one case a
hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.
|
Mark.4
[13] And he said to them, Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
[14] The sower sows the word.
[15]
And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown; when
they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which is
sown in them.
[16] And these in like manner are the ones sown upon rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy;
[17]
and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when
tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately
they fall away.
[18] And others are the ones sown among thorns; they are those who hear the word,
[19]
but the cares of the world, and the delight in riches, and the desire
for other things, enter in and choke the word, and it proves
unfruitful (akarpo))v).
[20] But those that were sown upon the good
soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit (karpo))forousin),
thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.
|
Luke.8
[11] Now the parable is this:
The seed is the word of God.
[12]
The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes
and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe
and be saved.
[13] And the ones on the rock are those who,
when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root,
they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.
[14]
And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as
they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and
pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.
[15]
And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word,
hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit (karpo))forousin) with
patience.

THE SEED GROWING SECRETLY
|
Mark.4
[26] And he said, The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed upon the ground,
[27] and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he knows not how.
[28] The earth produces of itself (karpo))forei), first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
[29] But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.

THE SEED GROWING SECRETLY
Matt.13
[24] Another parable he put before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field;
[25] but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.
[26] So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.
[27]
And the servants of the householder came and said to him, `Sir, did you
not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?'
[28] He said to them, `An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?'
[29] But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.
[30]
Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will
tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be
burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'

THE FIG TREE
Matt.21
[18] In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry.
[19]
And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it, and found nothing
on it but leaves only.
And he said to it, May no fruit ever come from
you again! And the fig tree withered at once.
|
Mark.11
[12] On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry.
[13]
And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he
could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but
leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
[14] And he said to it, May no one ever eat fruit from you again. And his disciples heard it.

THE WICKED TENANTS
Matt.21
[33] Hear another parable. There was a householder who planted
a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and
built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another
country.
[34] When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit;
[35] and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
[36] Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them.
[37] Afterward he sent his son to them, saying, `They will respect my son.'
[38]
But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, `This is the
heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.'
[39] And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
[40] When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?
[41]
They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and
let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in
their seasons."
[42] Jesus said to them, Have you never read in the scriptures: `The very stone which the builders rejected
has become the head of the corner;
this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
[43] Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.
|
Mark.12
[1] And he began to speak to them in parables. A man planted a
vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit for the wine press,
and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another
country.
[2] When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
[3] And they took him and beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
[4] Again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.
[5] And he sent another, and him they killed; and so with many others, some they beat and some they killed.
[6] He had still one other, a beloved son; finally he sent him to them, saying, `They will respect my son.'
[7] But those tenants said to one another, `This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
[8] And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
[9] What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others.
[10] Have you not read this scripture: `The very stone which the builders rejected
has become the head of the corner;
[11] this was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
|
Luke.20
[9] And he began to tell the people this parable: A man planted
a vineyard, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country
for a long while.
[10] When the time came, he sent a
servant to the tenants, that they should give him some of the fruit of
the vineyard; but the tenants beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
[11] And he sent another servant; him also they beat and treated shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
[12] And he sent yet a third; this one they wounded and cast out.
[13] Then the owner of the vineyard said, `What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will respect him.'
[14] But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, `This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
[15] And they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
[16] He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others. When they heard this, they said, "God forbid!"
[17] But he looked at them and said, What then is this that is written: `The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner'?
[18] Every one who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but when it falls on any one it will crush him.

THE DRINKING OF THE FRUIT OF THE VINE
Matt.26
[26] Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and
broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my
body.
[27] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you;
[28] for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
[29]
I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit (genhmatov) of the vine until that
day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
|
Mark.14
[22] And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, Take; this is my body.
[23] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.
[24] And he said to them, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
[25]
Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit (genhmatosv) of the vine
until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
|
Luke.22
[15] And he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer;
[19]
And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it
to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you. Do this in
remembrance of me.
[16] for I tell you I shall not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
[17] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves;
[18] for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit (genhmatov) of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
|
THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FOOL
|
|
Luke.12
[13] One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me."
[14] But he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?
[15]
And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a
man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.
[16] And he told them a parable, saying, The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully;
[17] and he thought to himself, `What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?'
[18]
And he said, `I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build
larger ones; and there I will store all my grain (gennhma) and my goods.
[19] And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.'
[20] But God said to him, `Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?'
[21] So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
|
THE FRUITLESS FIG TREE
|
|
Luke.13
[1] There were some present at that very time who told him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
[2]
And he answered them, Do you think that these Galileans were worse
sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered thus?
[3] I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
[4]
Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Silo'am fell and killed them,
do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who
dwelt in Jerusalem?
[5] I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
[6] And he told this parable: A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
[7]
And he said to the vinedresser, `Lo, these three years I have come
seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down; why
should it use up the ground?'
[8] And he answered him, `Let it alone, sir, this year also, till I dig about it and put on manure.
[9] And if it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'
|
THE FRUIT FOR ETERNAL LIFE
[31] Meanwhile the disciples besought him, saying, "Rabbi, eat."
[32] But he said to them, I have food to eat of which you do not know.
[33] So the disciples said to one another, "Has any one brought him food?"
[34] Jesus said to them, My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
[35]
Do you not say, `There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? I
tell you, lift up your eyes, and see how the fields are already white
for harvest.
[36] He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.
[37] For here the saying holds true, `One sows and another reaps.'
[38] I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.
THE HOUR HAS COME
John.12
[ 20] Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks.
[ 21] So these came to Philip, who was from Beth-sa'ida in Galilee, and said to him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."
[ 22] Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus.
[ 23] And Jesus answered them, The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.
[ 24]
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the
earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
[ 25] He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
[ 26]
If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my
servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honor him.
THE FRUIT OF THE VINE
[ 1] I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
[ 2]
Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every
branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
[ 3] You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you.
[ 4]
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself,
unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
[ 5]
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him,
he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
[ 6]
If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and
withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and
burned.
[ 7] If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
[ 8] By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.
[ 9] As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love.
[ 10] If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.
[ 11] These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
[ 12] This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
[ 13] Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
[ 14] You are my friends if you do what I command you.
[ 15]
No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what
his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have
heard from my Father I have made known to you.
[ 16] You did
not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and
bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask
the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
[ 17] This I command you, to love one another.
