Matthew 16
[13] Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare'a
Philip'pi, he asked his disciples, "Who
do men say that the Son of man is?"

Mark

[27] And Jesus went on with his disciples, to the villages of
Caesare'a Philip'pi; and on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?"
|
Luke
9
[18] Now it happened that as he was praying alone the disciples
were with him; and he asked them,
"Who do the people say that I am?"
|
[14]
And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli'jah, and
others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
|
[28]
And they told him, "John the Baptist; and others say, Eli'jah; and
others one of the prophets."
|
[19]
And they answered, "John the Baptist; but others say, Eli'jah; and
others, that one of the old prophets has risen."
|
[15]
He said to them, "But who do you
say that I am?"
|
[29]
And he asked them, "But who do you
say that I am?" |
[20]
And he said to them, "But who do
you say that I am?" |
[16]
Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
|
Peter
answered him, "You are the Christ."
|
And Peter
answered, "The Christ of God."
|
[17]
And Jesus answered him, "Blessed
are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh
and blood
has not
revealed this to
you, but my Father who is in heaven. |

[3]
And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful to
divorce one's wife for any cause?"
|
[2]
And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, "Is it lawful for
a man to divorce his wife?" |
|
[4]
He answered, |
[3
] He answered them, "What did
Moses command you?"
|
|
|
[4]They
said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to
put her away." |
|
|
[5]
But Jesus said to them, "For your
hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
|
|
"Have you not read that he who made
them from the beginning made them male and female, |
[6]
But from the beginning
of creation, `God made them male and female.'
|
|
[5]
and said, `For this
reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his
wife, |
[ 7]
`For this reason a man
shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
|
|
and the two shall become one flesh?
[6] So they are no longer
two but one flesh.
|
[8]
and the two shall
become one
flesh.' So
they are no longer two but one flesh.

What
therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder." |

[29] "Woe to you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets and
adorn the monuments of the righteous,

Luke 11
[47] Woe to you! for you
build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed.
|
[30] saying, `If we had lived in the days of
our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of
the prophets.'
|
|
|
[31] Thus you witness against yourselves,
that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
|
|
[48] So you are witnesses and consent to the
deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs.
|
[32] Fill up, then, the measure of your
fathers.
|
|
|
[33] You serpents, you brood of vipers, how
are you to escape being sentenced to hell?
|
|
|
[34] Therefore I send you prophets and wise
men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you
will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,
|
|
[49] Therefore also the Wisdom of God said,
`I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill
and persecute,'
|
[35]
that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed
on earth,
|
|
[50] that the blood of
all the prophets,
shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this
generation,
|
from the blood of
innocent Abel to the blood of
Zechari'ah the son of Barachi'ah, whom you murdered between the
sanctuary and the altar. |
|
[51] from the blood of
Abel to the blood
of Zechari'ah, who
perished between the altar and the sanctuary.
|
[36] Truly, I say to you, all this will come
upon this generation |
|
Yes, I tell you, it shall be required
of this generation. |

[16] then let those who are in Judea flee

then let those who are in Judea flee

|
[21] Then let those who are in Judea flee to
the mountains, |
[17] let him who is on the housetop not go
down to take what is in his house;
|
[15] let him who is on the housetop not go
down, nor enter his house, to take anything away; |
and let those who are inside the city
depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it;

turn back to take his mantle.

[22] for these are days of vengeance, to
fulfil all that is written. |
[19]
And alas for those who
are with child and for those who give suck in those days!
|
[17] And alas for those who are with child
and for those who give suck in those days!
|
[23] Alas for those who are with child and
for those who give suck in those days! For great distress shall be upon
the earth and wrath upon this people;
|
[20]
Pray that your flight
may not be in winter or on a sabbath.
|
[18] Pray that it may not happen in winter.
|
|
[21]
For then there will be
great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world
until now, no, and never will be.
|
[19] For in those days there will be such
tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which
God created until now, and never will be.
|
|
[22]
And if those days had
not been shorened, no flesh
would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, those days will be
shortened. |
[20] And if the Lord had not shortened the
days, no flesh
would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he
shortened the days. |

nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the
times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. |

Luke 22
[19]
And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it
to them, saying, "This is my body
which is given for you. Do this in
remembrance of me."
|
[27] And he took a
cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you; |
[23] And he took a
cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all
drank of it. |
[17]
And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, |
[28] for this is my blood of
the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
|
[24] And he said to
them, "This is my blood of
the covenant, which is poured out for many.
|
"Take this, and divide it among
yourselves;
|
[29] I tell you I shall not
drink again of this fruit of the vine until that
day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." |
[25] Truly, I say to you, I
shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine
until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." |
[18] for I tell you that from now on
I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God
comes." |
Matthew 26
[39] And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed,

Mark 14
[36] And he said,
|
Luke 22
[41] And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt
down and prayed,
|
"My Father, if it be possible, let this
cup pass from me; nevertheless,
not as I will, but as thou wilt."
|
"Abba, Father, all things are possible
to
thee; remove this cup from me; yet not what I will, but what thou
wilt."
|
[42] "Father, if thou art willing, remove
this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."
|
[40] And he came to
the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one
hour?
|
[37] And he came
and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not
watch one hour?
|
[45] And when he
rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for
sorrow,
|
[41] Watch and pray that you may not enter
into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak." |
[38] Watch and pray that you may not enter
into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak." |
[46] and he said to
them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and
pray that you may not enter into temptation." |
FROM THE FOURTH GOSPEL |
John 3
[1] Now there was a
man of the Pharisees, named Nicode'mus, a
ruler of the Jews.
[2]
This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that
you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you
do, unless God is with him."
[3] Jesus answered him, "Truly,
truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom
of God."
[4]
Nicode'mus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he
enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
[5] Jesus answered, "Truly,
truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he
cannot enter the kingdom of God.
[6] That which is born of
the flesh
is flesh,
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
[7] Do not marvel that I
said to you, `You must be born anew.'
[8] The wind blows where
it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do
not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one
who is born of the Spirit."
John 6
[51] I am the living bread which came down
from heaven; if any
one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I
shall give for the life of the world is my flesh."
[52] The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can
this man give us his flesh to eat?"
[53]
So Jesus said to them, "Truly,
truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh
of the Son of man and drink his blood, you
have no life in you;
[54] he who eats my flesh and
drinks my blood
has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
[55] For my flesh is
food indeed, and my blood is
drink indeed.
[56] He who eats my flesh and
drinks my blood
abides in me, and I in him.
[57] As the living Father
sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live
because of me.
[58] This is the bread
which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers
ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever."
[59] This he said in the synagogue, as he taught at Caper'na-um.
[60] Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is a
hard saying; who can listen to it?"
[61] But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured
at it, said to them, "Do you take
offense at this?
[62] Then what if you were
to see the Son of man ascending where he was before?
[63] It is the spirit that
gives life, the flesh is
of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
John 8
[12] Again Jesus
spoke to them, saying, "I am the
light of the
world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life."
[13] The Pharisees then said to him, "You are bearing witness to
yourself; your testimony is not true."
[14]
Jesus answered, "Even if I do
bear witness to myself, my testimony is
true, for I know whence I have come and whither I am going, but you do
not know whence I come or whither I am going.
[15] You judge according to
the flesh,
I judge no one.
[16] Yet even if I do
judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone that judge, but I and
he who sent me.
John 17
[1] When Jesus had
spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to
heaven and said, "Father, the
hour has come; glorify thy Son that the
Son may glorify thee,
[2] since thou hast given
him power over all flesh, to
give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him.
[3] And this is eternal
life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou
hast sent.
